Nei suoi primi cinquant’anni di attività, l'Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari ha creato una vera e propria «città nella città», per far fronte a quella che si presentava e si presenta ancora oggi come la situazione “più grave, tra quelle che si prospettano alla città di Roma”: il problema edilizio. Ma di che cosa è fatta questa città? Chi ne resta escluso? Quali sono i suoi paradossi? E quali le esigenze di una marginalità “non fortuita ma essenziale”? Un viaggio negli archivi per raccontare le impossibili trasformazioni della periferia romana tra il 1948 e il 2014, in un'alternanza di situazioni che non seguono un flusso temporale ma si giustappongono in un discorso politico sulla storia italiana e il suo presente. Un racconto a più voci, da quelle ufficiali dei cinegiornali fino al cinema militante, che un sapiente montaggio articola in una teoria capace di lasciare spazio agli interrogativi e incitare all’azione.

In its first fifty years of activity, the Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari had created a real “city in the city”, to cope with what was presented and still presents itself today as the “most serious situation, among those that stand before the city of Rome”: the housing problem. But what is this city made of? Who is excluded? What are its paradoxes? And what are the requirements of a “not fortuitous but essential” marginality? A journey through the archives to tell the story of the impossible transformations of the Roman suburbs between 1948 and 2014, in a sequence of situations that do not follow a temporal flow but are juxtaposed in a political discourse on Italian history and its present. A story of many voices, from the official newsreels to militant cinema, which a wise assemblage articulates in a theory that leaves room for questions and incites to action.

Arianna Lodeserto (1981) è laureata in filosofia contemporanea, ha svolto ricerche in archeologia dei media, teoria delle immagini e sociologia urbana presso il Laboratoire International de Recherches en Arts di Paris 3, l’ENSA Malaquais e Paris 4 e studiato cinema documentario all’ENS Louis-Lumière. Insegnante e ricercatrice precaria, si occupa da anni di periferie urbane e di archivi in movimento.

Arianna Lodeserto (1981) graduated in contemporary philosophy. She has carried out research in media archeology, image theory and urban sociology at the Laboratoire International de Recherches en Arts in Paris 3, ENSA Malaquais and Paris 4 and studied documentary cinema at ENS Louis-Lumière. A precarious teacher and researcher, she has worked for years on urban suburbs and mobile archives.
