A poetic and tangible documentary film that follows four children as they experience the natural cycle of life on a farm. Each child lives on a remote farm in the southwest of The Netherlands and is learning the profession of their ancestors from a young age. They dream that one day they will take over the farm of their fathers. Although this dream is never doubted, as they reach the early years of puberty the outside world begins to intrude on their universe. As the seasons go by, crops are sown and harvested, and animals are born and slaughtered. The children are confronted with the volatility of nature, the threat of extreme weather conditions and the cycle of life and death. Not only a narrative about life on a farm, it is also a story about dreams and isolation, and most importantly, about growing up. An amazing first feature that showcases a new documentary talent, a filmmaker with the ability to convey universal emotions through minimal details.

Janet van den Brand (1989) si è diplomata come regista alla scuola di cinema Sint-Lukas di Bruxelles nel 2013 e ha fatto un master in regia alla scuola di cinema di Kask nel 2015. I suoi film sono stati selezionati per numerosi festival cinematografici tra cui la Berlinale nel 2013 e 2018. Ceres è il suo primo film documentario.

Janet van den Brand (1989) graduated as a film director at the Sint-Lukas film school in Brussels in 2013 and did an extra master in film directing at the Kask film school in 2015. Her films have been selected for numerous film festivals including the Berlinale in 2013 and 2018. Ceres is her first documentary feature film.
